Carolwood LP is a fully integrated real estate private equity firm formed by principals Andrew Shanfeld and Adam Rubin in 2014. The firm’s objective is to acquire a diverse portfolio of investment grade assets ripe for repositioning and long-term growth. Our business is to make the companies and communities we invest in better.
Adam Rubin
Principal
Mr. Rubin is responsible for the firm’s overall investment strategy and negotiates transactions from contract to closing. Mr. Rubin handles all financing activities, capital raising and investor reporting on behalf of the firm. Furthermore, Adam is President of L&R Group of Companies, a Los Angeles based real estate & parking conglomerate. Mr. Rubin graduated from Harvard Westlake and later attended the New York University’s Schack Institute of Real Estate, where he studied real estate finance.
Andrew Shanfeld
Principal
Mr. Shanfeld is responsible for seeking new investment opportunities through his extensive relationships with industry professionals and business owners. Andrew implements tailored repositioning strategies and oversees all aspects of asset management, including day to day operation and construction. Prior to founding Carolwood, Andrew worked in the acquisitions department at Decron Properties for two years. Mr. Shanfeld graduated from Harvard Westlake and later attended the University of Michigan, where he received a B.A. in Economics.
Tyler Convery
Chief of Staff
Tyler started his career in Palo Alto working with venture backed medical device startups and for the last seven years has been active in the real estate brokerage community. Mr. Convery is a graduate of the University of Southern California and holds a degree in Public Policy and Real Estate Development.
Carlos Ramirez
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Ramirez is a seasoned senior restaurant operations manager with a robust background in food and beverage services, business development, and personnel management. With over two decades of experience, he has successfully led operations for multiple restaurant chains, overseeing everything from guest relations and vendor management to cost control and safety standards. Carlos has held leadership positions at prominent organizations like Original Tommy's Hamburgers, BJ's Restaurants, and Red Robin International, where he has consistently implemented innovative programs to improve operational efficiency and boost profitability.
Manny Escamilla
VP of Operations
Mr. Escamilla has a proven track record of success in restaurant and retail operations. His extensive experience, spanning over two decades with both large corporations and smaller businesses, speaks to his versatility and adaptability.
During his tenure at YUM! Brands, Mr. Escamilla held various leadership positions in both corporate and franchisee operations, showcasing his ability to navigate different organizational structures. He is recognized for his servant leadership style, his focus on creating a positive culture, and his ability to adapt his leadership approach to different situations.
Mr. Escamilla's strengths include driving top-line sales, increasing margins, and fostering a strong passion for people development. He also excels in strategic planning, process optimization, resource management, team building, performance management, and accountability.
Spencer Towill
Head of Origination
Mr. Towill oversees the firm’s deal origination and business development initiatives. In addition to spearheading these efforts, he plays a key role in evaluating and executing transactions.
Prior to Carolwood, Spencer worked at Diversis, a leading technology buyout fund investing across different strategies including corporate divestitures, special situations, and founder-owned businesses. Spencer graduated from Harvard Westlake and later attended UC Davis, where he studies Business Economics.
Sam Schroeder
Director of Acquisitions
Mr. Schroeder works across both the real estate and private equity arms. For the real estate arm, he is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and executing investment opportunities. For the private equity arm, he contributes to financial oversight for Carolwood's portfolio companies.
Prior to Carolwood, Sam began his career in investment banking at Houlihan Lokey in the Financial Restructuring Group, specializing in distressed M&A, restructurings, and special situations of public and private companies. He later joined Regent Properties, where he concentrated on acquiring distressed assets. Sam graduated with a BBA in Finance from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas.
